Are you able to safely keep Cardinal tetras in high PH/Hard water?

I'm pondering on setting up a tank for Cardinal tetras but my worry is my PH could be too high sitting at 8.2 although I keep my nitrates between 5-10ppm Max.

Will this be a wild goose chase? Am I barking up the wrong tree? Will I lose many if I attempt this?

I basically want to know if anyone successfully kept them in hard water?

Since Cardinals come from soft, black water rivers, where pH seldom rises above 4 to 6, and most are wild caught, chances are..... they will have little immunity to the bacteria tend to thrive in hard higher pH water like yours.
Maybe if you could access locally bred indiviiduals, that have been adapted for many generations, in hard, higher pH conditions, and are accustomed to your parameters.......?
