Just something I've noticed here on MFK: there are a lot of members that have absolutely horrible grammar, vocabulary, spelling, and punctuation skills. For the most part, it's not that big of a deal. Some of these posts, however, are almost impossible to read! I know that it's not a requirement to have a formal education to be a member of MFK, but for crying out loud! Are you serious?

A couple examples:

sents - since
no - know
there - they're or they are
sume - some

Wow! That's all I can say. I do understand that some members are not from English speaking countries and we all make mistakes from time to time, but the members that should know the language often don't. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

it's the World Wide Web, not everyone that can get on a computer has amazing grammar skills. many of the people your getting at is the generation of teenagers nowadays that have been brought up on texting and Im's, then they get onto an internet forum..Bam your problem.

i have no idea why you're moaning,it has never bothered me sometimes i use slang...to get down with the kids and dislexics ( yeah i spelt that wrong ;) )

Absolutely, it's just a shame that our educational system can't get these kids the education they need. Can you imagine how hard it would be to get a good job when you can't even spell simple words in order to complete a job application or resume?

Considering the bulk of hobbyists in the fish industry aren't of American descent, or are first or second generation Americans - and some of these folks may be using English as a second language. I'm not entirely surprised by it.

Some of us are too old, but in the mid 80's and up until the 90's children were being praised for mispelling words. It was thought that by phonetically spelling things, kids were using their brains and logic skills to decipher things. Unfortunately, teachers up into the 8th grade adopted this practice, even scolding parents for correcting their children when they would mispell words!

The study that showed this reign of thought also said that children should be encouraged to spell properly after the 2nd or 3rd grade - which makes a lot more sense.

I only know about this, because we had to do a cause and effect essay on an article regarding how terrible our educational system has become - and how one of the main causes for poor grammatical and sentence structure skills stems from lazy teachers, and a flawed educational system.

I would still venture to say that a lot of the people on here who are mispelling words were not raised using English as their first language.

Here we go blaming the teacher....

Next thing I will hear is that teachers spend way to much time surfing the net and MFK when they should be teaching.
