my 2 rescue uaru act like they were abused. They always hide when I'm in the room. I did move stuff around in the tank and added new plants. Before I did that they were more out going. When I feed them they are like differant fish. Out swimming around happy.

Is this normal? My severums who I had since 1" are out going and always are out the moment I look at the tank even if I don't look at them they start to beg. But these uaru run when I come near it's starting to make me wonder if they are worth keeping.

Maybee a school of tetra or danio or raspora would make them feel a bit more comfortable.
If you have already tried to rearrange and it didnt work then i would try some dithers. Some shy fish just like to see other fish swimming around so they can feel safe.
Personally I like Jumbo neon tetras.

mine are outgoing....they eat from my hand....

Once mine are out and know it's food time they will eat from my hand they love food. Other then feeding time they hide out. Really skitish. I'm thinking they might have been abused at there other home.

It seems to take them a long time to adjust to any change in the tank. Before I change things around they were better. I have only had them for a month and a half. They have only been in the 100 gal for 2 about weeks.

I have 4 red eye tetras left in the tank I'm getting a few more larger tetras to try.

if they were better before the move around then thats what the problem was. give them some time, moving decor is more stressful to fish than you think.

when i had them they were far from shy even as 1" juveniles they explored from minute i put them in but they did have a 6" GT guarding them, that probably helped.

Mine was somewhat shy but it was kept alone. It was around 6" in a 55 and very skittish/jumpy; when I got it into my 170 it calmed right down, especially as it grew. As a 10" adult it feared nothing.

mine was never shy from the time i had him,he was rather aggressive towards other fish, but he is very out going(only time he hides is when he sees the net coiming toward the tank lol)

Ok these fish are so weird. Now they are swimming around and came out right when the lights came on. They are being a little bit more aggressive nipping at my parrot. They are big time bullies when food is around such food hogs and don't want any others to get it. Once the food is gone they chill out.

I think it was the big change that I did to the tank that freaked them
out. These guys are so moody. Thanks guys.

Ok so I did a little test. I hide out of site and see the fish are out active nipping at the wood . Then as soon as they see me they swim and hide from me. Then when I leave they come out and swim around. It's like they hate me.

So now the question is if I add one more uaru would they be better and less scared of me? but I don't think my tank is big enough. 3 uaru 1 true parrot and a blue acara with 3 pictus cats? Could I add another uaru and would it work?
