my orange peacock hasnt been right for about a week now. Hiding in the corner not eating. i finaly found the problem. He has a huge spot of fungus on his side behind his fin. this is one of my favorite fish and i dont want to lose him. So two questions. How do i get the activated carbon out of my penguine bio-weel filter cartriges? And what is the best medicine for fungus? a speedy reply would be apreciated as i realy dont want to lose this fish!:(
I just noticed this this morning. but i think it has been going on all week.

Slice the top of the filter cartridges open with a knife or razor blade and just pour the carbon out, rinse with water to get it all. Depending on how old the cartridges are you may not even need to remove it at all. After about a month the little bit of carbon in those things are useless as chemical filtration (in my experience.)

As for treating the fungus I've had great luck with Mardel's Maracyn Plus.

he looks pretty bad now. hes swimin upside down and bumpn into the sides. for a while he wedged jimself under a rock. And on top of that the only store that sells fish stuff close enough to get to now doesnt have the right medicine. I havnt had a verry good day.:swear: :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire

that sux I lost my lemon jake today =( it always bites losing a fish. sorry for you loss! If I would have seen this sooner, Id tell you to turn the water temp to 82 and add salt, I had that fungus on my jack dempsy before and all it took was a few days of a higher temp and some salt and it cleared right up.
