I am having rotten luck...
I am trying to get started with some Clown Loaches.
Problems:
First it was extremely hard for me to find CL's locally here in Socal. I had to call around to a ton of places for a while to find them.
Second, I screwed up and just acclimated for temp and ph before putting them in my newest tank.
Ultimately they developed a case of Ich that I had no idea I had until they started showing white spots a few days later. I tried treating with temp and salt, but other than the normal Ich cycle, I saw no visible changes over the last month. I set up an empty tank for the 5 of them including one looking very skinny.
I decided to use a high precision heating system that has a inlet and outlet hose in the quarantine tank and pumps the water back to a box with the heater and pump in it. I have been treating with Kordon Ich-Attack for a couple of days and the sickest one seemed to be getting better and must have tried to check out the 1/2 inch ID hoses and got sucked in the intake. Argh..I felt the suction and am still amazed it was strong enough to pull him in, or even that he fit! I disassembled the system as soon as i noticed which couldn't have been more than 30 minutes after he got sucked in and found him in the heating chamber. He looked dead, but amazingly his gills were moving so I put him back in the tank and he has survived a few hours but doesn't look good. I doubt he will last long, but if anything I'm glad it was him and not one of the healthier ones.
I'm learning a lot of lessons(getting frustrated), but am I just having a bad string of luck with these guys or is anyone else having CL problems? I got the impression that there were major health problems (Ich or ?) and that was why there was unusually low supply available. Anyone else having current problems? Please don't tell me about the fish you have had for years, just recent additions as I think thats more relevant.
Thanks,
-Mike
