Hello, what size fish should i expect in a 2 inch argentea to reach in about a year? He is in a 135 with 1/3 wc weekly, and fed a varied diet.
Thanks
Thanks
If yours is 2 inches now, you should figure he'll be 5-6 inches 12 months from now? Maybe less. that's about how mine have grown for almost 3 years now. I've read reports of Argentea growing 12 inches in a year, but I'm highly skeptical.
But it's not quite as bad as it sounds. They may not get longer, but they'll get a lot thicker in that time, and they'll get "higher", from belly to back.
Mine are almost 3 years old, they're not 12 inches yet. But they're in a tank with a 12 inch Synspilum and some Zonatus that are 12 inches, and though the Argentea is not as long, he's as thick and high bodied as they are for sure, they are in the same league as those 12 inch fish--if that makes sense?
I'm gonna post this article Rapps sent me when I emailed him asking all kinds of questions about Argentea. Article says these fish are not sexually mature for 3 years, so that gives you an idea of how slow they grow.
Thanks. Just wondering a little off topic but what size did you get the zos and how long did it reach them to get a foot? I too was a little skepticle about a foot in a year for argenteas. I have mine argentea with 7 other zos atm
I got the Zonatus at 2 inches, maybe less? They grew kinda slow when I first got 'em, but they're a foot now. I've had them about a year, maybe a little longer. Zonatus are an inch a year fish, or close to it. Grow almost as fast as Synspilum/Melanurum.
But, same thing with them -- my zonatus are definitely 12 inches, but they're HUGE. Big fat hogs, very high body, and they're still just juveniles, too. Not a doubt in my mind they'll put on another 2-3 inches over the next 6 months or so. They're like water dogs.
