i have a 5ft x 20in x 20in tank with a big caved area on one side a massive piece of bogwood on the other and am planning on planting fairly heavily but in patches. i have a 5in male argentea in a holding tank at the minute and was wondering if it would be possible to put the argentea in my 5 foot tank with some small geos(tapajos are what im after) and other dwarf cichlids and appisto's.

could this work with enough plants and caves or will the argentea annihilate everything?

I dont think so. Argentea are very aggressive. A planted tank doesnt sound like a good idea either.

I hate to beat the dead horse but this is a bad idea. Not only would the geos and dwarfs be in jeopardy but also your plants.

What other ideas do you have on what you want for the tank?

Not disagreeing with everyone but i do have some large viejas( argentea included) in with some small geos and clown loaches and no issues, i think its normallt not gunna work but anything is possible. It all depends on the individual fish really. Why nt try it? Is your argentea a killer that you know of?

I don't know about the Geo's but I can tell you now that the plants will be toast. When an Argentea reaches a certain size ( or heck, any size) he will rip those plants into salad.

the argentea is currently in with an albino tiger oscar 2 tin foil barbs and a silver dollar which atm are all bigger then him and a silver shark and ruby shark both smaller with no issues. i really want the argentea as my centre piece but if it is easier to be rid of the argentea i can, i guess. im really loving the look of the tapajos geos and red head geos with some other dwarfs or something.

is there a possible compromise here?

U can do this
5 geos red heads
1 pair of dwarf cichlids

The Oscar could eat the dwarf cichlids...
