So i got a new 220 gallon, i hooked everything up and i connected my 2 Fx'5 and all the sand and guck from the filters came into the tank.

i know i should have cleaned out the filters before i used them, i had sand in my tank before

i think the sand i had was silica sand some cheap variation which was light so it used to be flying all over the place.

now there is sand all over the tank. i had to take the filter out again and rinse them out, it helped a little but there is still sand. whats the fasteset way i can get teh sand out.

i'm running 2 fx5's and 2 koralia 4's so i think there is good circulation.

would it help if i hooked up a eheim 2217 and just filled it up with the coarse or fine pads?

help!

yup use the 2217 asap
only problem is the fx5s will also suck some sand up
no worries though
make sure u clean the fx5s after 6 hours..
dont clean the bio media
just the pads
and your good to go.

Eventually everything will settle down in there. If there is a ton of sand I might shut my filters down (after al the junk was done flying out) to let it all settle and to aviod the sand from getting sucked back in. About a hour should do.

Make sure to clean the sand out of the filters. If they are very old, the sand can work it's way into the bearing.

So you don't have sand in your 220G tank, but your pair of FX5s were full of sand they collected on a previous tank, and now they've spewed that out and it's being blown around?

First thing I'd do is turn off the two totally unnecessary powerheads. Is your tank bare bottom? If so I'd just turn everything off and wait ten minutes to let the sand settle, then siphon it out, and take the filters apart to actually clean all the sand out of them so their impellers don't get ruinned.
If you have gravel the sand should settle into it and never be heard from again. If you have sand in this tank turn your powerheads off and leave them off, and raise the intakes of your filters to be at least 12"/30cm above the substrate.

An Eheim 2217 is going to turn over a 220G aquarium probably less than once an hour, it's not going to do much of anything.
