Arowana!!! Sorry for the typo

Hello guys. I have a 28" silver tht I've had for almost 3 years. Started with a 30 gal to a 50 to a 125 and now he is in a 240.. Eventually I'm going to have to make another step. Either a big tank 300+ gal or a pond. If prefer a tank but they are not too common in the Midwest . If they are around here there are pretty pricey. I could put a pond in the garage. Dont want him jumping out tho. I guess another option would be to find him a new home, but that's last resort.. So my question is. What would you do? He seems fine in the 240 for now, but I assume he would prefer a bigger home. I guess I'll save my pennies till I see the big tank on Craigslist..

I have a2.5 in aro do you think he would be ok in a 10g until he's about 7-10in..eventually I want to get a 265-300g please fill me in on your tank, filtration, lighting etc cause I'm kind of new to the hobby and I love my aro just trying to give him the best possible home

Not sure how your DIY skills are but you should consider building a larger tank. There is tons of information on this site and it's really not hard once you do some research.

If you decide to go the pond route just make your self a top and your good to go.

Yeah, that was an option I tossed around also. A plywood tank with a glass front. I can't go through another leak situation again. I've seen videos and it looks do- able.
Thanks

Do what ya gotta do to get a bigger tank. He's not in ideal situation right now but far from dire straits. Keep searching and hoping that you'll find a bigger tank that is right for you. He is not going to grow very much over the next year so things won't change much from what they are right now.

I have a 55g with a 4-5in Oscar a8-9in channel cat and a 5-6 in pleco .i obviously can't put the aro in now he's to small so I was wondering is it ok to house it in the 10g tank until he's about 7-10in to fend for himself

I didn't doit intentionally like I said I'm new to this....how do you start a new thread

Lol. Go back to the forum and click POST NEW THREAD.

Also, never keep any 5"-7" fish in a 10 gallon tank.

hmm i always thought 180 was the minimum for an adult silver, but i guess bigger is always better... i'm sure the aro would much appreciate the extra swimming space. on a side note- my lfs told me that those 300 gallon type larger tanks were all custom built thats why they are so expensive. IMO if i was in your shoes and had the space and $$ i'd totally go indoor pond with some sort of cover over it.

sileraro- start your own thread like bderick says and be nice to him. he happens to have a lot of experience with aros and gives really good advice-- i would not get on his bad side. gl.

Exactly this!

A 3' fish in a 2' wide 6' long tank? Click the link in BDerick67s sig, yes there are four in that 450g, but do you think anything much smaller would be ok for even one?

As for the guy with the 10g tank, how about you put the fish you already have into a 180g+, then put the silver in the 55g until it is ~12", then move all of them into something around 300g?
