Armatus and Aimara

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Aimara isn't a good tank mate for anything and armatus can be aggressive but definitely 100% better choice if you plan to community. Though in a specimen tank an aimara is a wicked pet. Personal preference.

There is one person on here that has the exact combo you're asking about. Look a bit in the characin forum and you should be able to find it.

I can't imagine this being successful for most people, but it has been done.

Armatus were treated the same way as Aimara are now when first introduced to the hobby. Kept alone, not trusted. Price hits $50/ea and you started seeing groups, and they worked in the right conditions, now are "trusted" in community settings. There's plenty of Aimaras out there in community settings with other fish.

There's no argument which is better suited for our glass boxes - Aimara. Not only for max tank size requirements but for track record for living in captivity. Seems like there are massive amounts of lost Armatus once brought into the hobby versus Aimara. Seems with Aimara there's no mystery deaths, less issues handling, seem less fragile, less skiddish.

I think it's an easy choice if you've experienced both species. :)

Aimara are definitely not skittish. I believe the word aimara must mean "anger issues" in Latin. :D
