hi guys:

I'm currently considering a trade that would land me a 5-6 inch ATF. The thing is, the tank where i'm going to put the ATF in is with an 9 inch armatus. IS IT GOING TO WORK? My armatus is considerable calm and docile. i have a red wolf that is 4.5 inches and my armatus never attacks it, besides the occassional "chase around." i'm worry about the armatus fangs that could blind the ATF. Armatus and ATFs do like to target
silvery fish. My armatus and the ATF are indeed silvery fish.

Another factor is that my armatus has been the dominate fish for so long and it has been the only mid/top swimming fish in my tank. I used to have 2 angelfish around 4 to 5 inches and my armatus blinded than killed both of them. i don't want to waste money on a 200 dollar fish that my armatus is going to kill or destroy.

Any experience and tips in how this combo will/will not work? Thanks.

I don't have any personal experience with the combo, but the fact that the armatus is already going to be double the ATFs size would be a red flag to me personally. They grow faster than ATF too, so keep that in mind also.

ya, armatus outgrows the ATF. My armatus seems to be growing slower now.

I have an 8“ ATF and added a10" army. The army eats 5 times the amount of food of the ATF and grows much faster. Also the army is the only fish in the tank that's not scratches up or missing scales. The army is being sold for this reason.

The only way an ATF works long term with an armie is if the ATF is significantly bigger to start with. Your armie already has a heck of a head start in growth and will continue to grow much faster than the ATF.

If you do this, it won't be long until you're left with just a fat, happy, un-hungry armatus.

Yeah I agree, best case would be ATF first and bigger, however I will say in my experience ATF's and payara get along well so who knows .... Armatus really grow a lot in the first year but then slow down a lot .... I mean its a big risk, especially with the armatus having a claim on the tank already ..... I give it a 50/50 shot .... the ATF better be 8 inches though, not an eye balled 8 inches if you know what I mean, cause if its smaller your in trouble .... 8 inches I think is when ATF's start to hit their stride

Are there any cheap fish out there that looks like an ATF that I can test my armatus' aggressiveness?

what's the general growth rate of a 6 inch ATF?
