Does anyone have experience mixxing these 2 fish?

Success/Failure??????

I want to get a similar sized arro to mix with my Armatus. But wanted to know if I'm just gonna end up having to seperate them..........

Thanx in advance.

I have seen a few members here has Armatus with aro. IMO, if the aro is slightly bigger than the Armatus (around 4" in size difference), there shouldn't be any problem. If the aro is much bigger than the Armatus, then you'll have to worry about the aro may attack and/or kill the Armatus. Aro tend to lives at the surface, while Armatus tend to live more at the bottom and/or mid-range of the aquarium, so not much chance these two run-in to each other, and if it happen, most likely the aro attack the Armatus from above

What is the silver/black arros growth rate compared to that of Armatus?

When I got my armatus he harassed a 12" silver to death and he was just 4"! I wouldnt do it man.

Yes an aro is a top dweller but come on our tanks are what 21/2 feet deep. They are going to run into each other no matter what. Also if you look at the physiology of the hydrolycus sp they are designed to attack from below so anything above them is SOL!

I've come to the conclusion that if I am going to attempt this it would be a lot wiser to do it with a silver than a black.......

I def. agree w/ you, jus keep a good eye out cuz things could still get NASTY...Good Luck

when i first got my first armatus, he was fine with a silver and jar that were a little bigger. for some reason i decided to get rid of the aros. then every aro i tried to introduce, my armatus killed. the aro needs to be bigger, after that it all depends on the fish. my mission is to try to get my small armatus and black aro together. i think mike c. has his w a black, but the black is alot bigger.

That's correct, I have a 22-24'' Black Aro in with my Armatus which is now 10'' and so far so good. I did however notice a difference in behavior when I introduced my Redtail (which is no longer in the tank) it cowered from the Aro but the Armatus swam right up to it face to face and both just turned away. I did notice a long scratch on my ATF (r.i.p. not because of Armatus) so I really think it's a speed thing as well. The Aro is really slow swimming and relaxed compared to an ATF. I hope it keeps working for me.Good luck and for sure start with a bigger Aro and keep an eye opened.
