I am currently searching and learning about the clowns. I love them... Many years ago I had some and I am really excited about getting some more. Problem, their spines. I am just curious what you guys might think. I am sure I will be getting them small (I refuse to pay the outrageous prices for larger ones), They will have plenty of hiding places. Being bottom guys what do you think the odds of my Arms picking them off?? Going in the 96X34X34... Maybe 5 of them..

I dont think you will even get many replies. Its like asking if you can use salt water for a Discus tank:screwy:.

You are talking about mixing one of the slowest growing community fish with one of the fastest growing PRED?? Are you serious bro???

I mean it will work till maybe 5...5:30ish

Why not get another tank and set up the CLs?? Or throw them in a Sump/Grow out Tank

That is one combo that will never work, especially if you dont want to spend to get a good size CL... but let me know how that goes if you do decide to try it out (I would only try it with 1CL tho)

I promise there is logic behind my madness!!!!!!!

I am not concerned with losing a CL as I am losing an Arm to a CL.

I am concerned with the barbs/spikes on a CL. I guess if you want me to be more exact in my question I would have to say... Do you guys think an 13" and 11" Armatus could eat a 2-3 inch CL without killing itself?

I personally don't even think the Arms will look at a 2"-3" fish on the bottom under plenty of cover in a sunken root style driftwood...I could be wrong. I am new to Armatus hence my questions for the experienced keepers. I've had these guys for under 2 Years. CLs are not flashy, they stay on the bottom for the most part, and like to have their little holes and caves to hide in. With this in mind I would'nt think it would be too much of an issue to keep them together being that the Arms are well fed and not hunting around for anything they can find to eat.

Clown loaches are only bottom dwellers until they realize food always starts at the surface.

That's my experience at least.

Thx FSM, thats the kind of info I like ot get. I added the other driftwood yesterday. 2 of my striped Raphs hitch hiked in. I saw their tails when I had the wood out of my other tank. I didn't really mind and didn't really want the stress of trying ot remove them. For those not familiar with the Raphaels they can be a real pain once they are commited to a hole. I am amazed at how curios the armatus are. After a little while the 2 raphs came out. I am assuming they just wanted to check out their new home and the Arms definitely checked them out. I may hold off a little just to see how they arms act around the driftwood. I have all the pointy parts up against the glass so hey won't spear themselves.
