Thunder hit my house and my armatus must have gotten scared and ran into something he has big scrape and at one point gets a little deep. His health doesnt look detremental other than he will have some scarring. My water is clean and oxygenated. What else can I do to help his wound heal healthy and effectively?
Where do i get/make salt water and how do I add it to a fish tank?
Will get a better picture later tonight if your interested on how bad his cut really is.
Btw this just happened earlier today, so idk whats going to happen Id like to take action before something gets infected
I read that salt might irritate characins. I want to know how much i should use

Any LFS should have aquarium salt and just follow the instruction and you should be fine.

Can ii just use like some table salt?

I would go buy pickling salt from Walmart or Target. It is much cheaper than iodized table salt. If you can't find pickling salt, ice creams salt will also work. Start off with about 1 tablespoon of salt per 5 gallons, and add it over a 48 hour period. If there is sign of distress, stop adding anymore salt, and do a water change to reduce the salt content. I've never used salt on arms, but I have used 3 tablespoons per 5 gallons of water on silver dollars to treat ich.

Salt would irritate a fish with open wound as much as it would if you put salt onto your own open wound. Clean water should be enough. The salt is normally to make the owner feel better but not necessarily the fish.

Actually using the salt on a fish's wound is not the same as putting salt on a person's open wound. It can help prevent secondary infections and help reduce stress...From,

Well, we all believe what we want to believe. I wouldn't say salt is not useful. It surely is but it will sting the fish same as it does to us. Good they can't scream...

Thanks for the info guys. Just before the accident I had actually cleaned the tank and water so I decided to do nothing and let it heal on its own. In two days it was looking good so I felt good. Unfortunately he managed to bust out the top of the tank in the night. He died. I had him for a year or a little more and he was just almost pushing 1 foot.
