Any suggestions on helping out my 12" Armatus. He got spooked and slammed into the glass and now for two days he still can't swim. I try to wedge him in the upright position with driftwood but as soon as he moves he turns upside down. I did a water change and I am keeping the lights out but I don't think he is going to pull through as he can't even swim or hold himself from flipping over. If this one goes down that will be two I have lost! Still have one left!

I am sorry man, unfortunately for any hydrolycus species once they're not bale to swim upright, it's too late.

If you can take him out of his misery, it's propably for the better...

agree with Stan, i have tried and lost 2 this year due to the same thing. I had one live almost 2 weeks swimming upside down, before i took him out.

sucks, but that is the biggest problem with armatus.

Try again to change water, aproximately 25%, Hidrolycus is very sensitive to high concentration of nitrate, can you check it? I don't recomend you, handling any fish, because lost mucus skin and could be bad and harmful. I had another one and improve with the change water. Good luck.

He was in a 450 gallon but I had to treat him for an eye problem in the 90 gallon and it was almost healed. It was due to go back in the 450 probably in a week and then I went in to check on him and he freaked and swam the length of the tank and slammed his head big time! It sucks! Well I have one left with a possibilty of buying one locally off someone. The only problem is he wants around $400 and I sold it to him for what I brought it in for and that was $128 about a year ago. Really a hard fish to get a hold of in this part of the woods!!!Damn.......

sorry to hear Trev!!! tell that guy to cut ya a deal since you never made money when you sold it to him!! and snap up that one local how big is it now that you sold it to him over a year go??

i had a couple of armatus hit the class and my remedy is a powerhead, but this does not always work.

it could be a variety of things sorry to here this man
