In the fish room
So I was watching videos on you tube with armatus in them and noticed that all the armatus that were feed frozen/dead food had smaller "fangs" then the ones that were eating live foods. I know i probably doesn't matter but was just wondering if there "fangs" growth depended on the live food the eat. Like that saying "if you don't use it you lose it" just curios

Interesting point but it could be that the ones you saw with the smaller teeth could have been in the process of growing them out.

thats what I thought too but then there was one that had no teeth at all so thats why i was wondering. Next year when there in season again i'm going to buy two and feed one only live and one only frozen. I'm still not sure what i'm doing with the one I have now its about 11 inch. its still on live for now i guess

That would be an interesting project but you dont have to wait.Sharkaquarium still has plenty of them.Your near footer must be a beaut,is it active, who did you get from?I saw that link before and I love it.:)

ya mine is very active it chaces every other fish around in the tank. I have it with one huge goldfish, that it never ate, 8 silver dollars, two tin foil barbs, two wild oscars from Trinidad, Large mouth bass, and 1 gold jardini. its an interesting stock i think. I got it from a small wholeseller here in town. It was only three inch when I first got it. the sponge filter base is three inch for reference

and this is it now sorry bad picture and no good refence object to compare to:(

Really nice looking arm.I like the gold sheen it has,I have one that is gold like yours and one that is more silvery in color. This gold jardini sounds interesting as well, can I see that too?

i think it may have to do with the food.
the purpose of those fangs i believe is to hold live prey in place, but dead foods dont struggle and therefore may cause less of a need for those big fangs.

nice armatus too!

Channa I agree 100%....Your on the right track...It's because they fall out and are replaced more often from that struggle. Each time a new set grows in bigger....It's not the food, it's the process.
