Hey everyone. I picked up my armatus almost a week ago (last saturday), he ate two pieces of talapia sunday or monday night and hasnt eaten since. He still shows some interest in the food, but wont even make an attempt to eat it. When I bought him from exoticaquaria they told me the armatus was already eating smelt. I have tried sinking carnivore pellets as wellas shrimp, both of which the armatus still shows no interest in. Seems like hes too busy chexking out his own reflection in the glass to be botherd with anything else. Does anyone have any tips/suggestions?

It's SUPER hard to get to eat sinking pellets. forget about it for now and just feed it fish fillet.

Jigging works for me with my ultra-stubborn Scomb. Bounce it a few times to get his attention, then when he's coming to check it out, pull it away with a moderate quickness to engage the fish's strike instinct. It took a bit of starving for my Scomb to come off of live, but it worked. Stay the course my friend, he'll come around.

I wouldn't start to worry until he's so thin you can see the bones in his tail behind where his stomach ends. He's going to have to be HUNGRY to really come around. Don't worry, he'll break. :)

Oh, and unless it's actual fish flesh, my Scomb won't take it. I can get him to eat a few trout chunks then put a pellet on the hook just like the trout and he won't touch it. I'll give up on that and offer another trout chunk and he nails it instantly.

%$#*&@%$*@%!!!1! :swear:

Took me ard 1-2 months to train off live feeders:duh:

Awesome fish you got there. Im going to try and feed him for the first time today. I havnt turned on the tank lights yet, so theres some natural light from the windows. Maybe the slightly darker setting will help. The tank hes in is pretty bare, only one large fake plant in the center and a few small live plants from my smaller tanks.

Holy crap, he still wont even show interest in food. Iv tried tying pieces of talapia to fishing line and dangle it around in the tank with some jerky motions, and nothing. Iv done this basicly every hour today. Im starting to waste food now just trying to get him to take it. The tank lights are off now (back on a timer for 6 hours), so im going to try again with the moonlight on.

Eventually they are gonna need food dont forget hè is à predator put in some live feeders to get him start eating again and if hè does you wont be so worried and start working from there dont believe anything what they say in the stores. He is still addapting to our man made environment make him feel @ home and the rest will com.
