So after two years of thinking about it, I finally decided to get an armatus. I wanted to ask those with experience on the matter a question that I cant seem to find a definitive answer on. What is their lifespan on average? I have read everything from 2-4 years to less than a year because they seem to die at 10-12 inches no matter what. I have read up on the proper care as far as tank size, diet, and they like a lot of water flow, but what about lifespan? I don't want to get an expensive fish that will die fast. That's why I would never keep a cephalopod. Does anyone know of any armatus for sale? I see that aquascapeonline has some. Has anyone ever dealt with them? How can I be sure that they are true armatus from the pics on the site? I read the sticky and I am confident that I can tell a larger specimen apart from the scomberoides but what about the 3-4 inch ones at aquascape? Any help on this is appreciated.

How big is your tank and what's the PH?

In my expereince they do poorly in high PH.

Most hobbyists get caught with thier pants down when it comes to tank size. You may be able to start them in a small tank, but keep in mind the potential to hit like 15 inches the first year. Very little time to keep upgrading tanks, plus they handle being moved very poorly.

Good luck. I gave up. I think my PH is just too high.

I was planning on starting it off in a 90 gallon then moving it to my 240. The ph in the 90 is between 7.1 and 7.2.

mine always do pretty well.

i used to have a 22"

for an ID u better post pics in this forum. aquascape knows wht armatus look like though...

This is one of the pics from their site. Since you have a lot of experience with them I'll go with aquascape on your word. Do you have any idea about the average lifespan of these things?
