So I turned my lights out tonight and I hear something going nuts in my tank making all kinds of noise jumping out and such, and I think it is the aro but Im not sure because of the whole lights out thing. I dont know if its that hes afraid of the dark or what it is. None of the tank mates are particularly active at night to scare him. maybe he just needs a night light lol

is the aro new to the tank?
if so he may not be used to it yet.
try a very small light at one end of the tank, that might help him settle down without upsetting the other fish.

The younger the Aro the more active they are ;) .Mine break the glass top twice already :naughty:
or then again maybe your tank is too small for your Aro.

This is due to tha aro not being used to being in the dark.

i take it that normally the lights are pretty much on most of the time?

haven't you realized yet that all aro's jump out at night... don't kow why this is since I don't believe that they are really nocturnal... tell me if I am wrong...

tts not really true... my aros are fine in the dark...

its just a matter of them getting stabilized to the environment.

my old arrowana only freaked when it is completely dark and i turned on the light in the room.

also for some reason, when i wipe the glass with dark colored items it would do fine but if i used a white color item, it would go crazy, jumped out of the tank twice.

Let the aro stabilize in the tank first.....
then use small dim light at night...for a week....
after that try again.....

my aro at first also panic when I turn the light off.....
now it use to it already......
