Guys, today me and Loubard will finally get our long awaited black aro. As they are flown in straight from colombia, im gonna put it in a q-tank and want to use some sort of med to kill any dangerous things he carries with him. I was thinking of FMC (formaline and methyleen blue) or malachite green. But im not sure if these aro's can stand those meds. Any ideas or suggestions?

Most problems can be solved with a slow increase in temp to 84-88 f and aquarium salt, don't increase temp if aro is phyically hurt will cause increased swelling. Other than that a a combo of melafix and primafix at 50 % dose covers alot of problems.

increase temp on a pysically injured aro will not increase swelling

Parts of the body may swell in response to injury, infection or disease, or because of an underlying lump. Swelling can also occur if the body is not circulating fluid.

increase the temp.

so to make sure all bacteria that could possible infect my other fish, all i need to do is raise temp? its not just for this fish, its mostly for my others...

datnoid, plecos, polypterus and eels. i must say im particulary afraid he might carry something that affects my plecos.
i have some EXIT and eSHa 2000 here. anybody familiar with those?

I'd be more worried about the meds with the plecs than anything else. Algae absorbs certain meds and concentrates it. The plecos can easily overdose on meds, and recommended doses can become fatal for many plecos.

True, true.... but i think some saltwater will do and when he eats and looks good next week i think its save to put put him in your big tank :screwy: but im not an aro-expert...

true true, ill think ill just add the salt first and raise temp to 31 and keep him there for a couple of days. how long should i keep him in that 3% salt?
