This thought came to me today.

There's always a problem of comm aros due to fights.
Reason being aros are territorial only to their own kind (generally).
So I'd take it that asian aros would recognise their own kind in the tank and hence fight amongst their kind.

But somehow they too have problems with south american aros (Silvers/Black) and Australian Aros. Do all the various types of aros somehow recognise each other to be of the similar family and hence fights breakout even amongst mixture of Asian, S. American and Australian aro comm.

Do these aros recognise by sight or sense of smell?
Generally aros do not have problems comm with other similar shaped tankmates like Snakeheads. How come?

Silvers also got those really aggressive one which is hard to co-exist with the rest.:screwy:

its a weird one this.... some cases they recognize each other, some times not, sometimes a sa aro will go 4 jar/asian but not sa, sometimes asian aro will only go for sa but not asian and sometimes they all get along, they are a long fish and its prob head shape that causes them to recognize each other....

I dont agree that they generally dislike other top swimmers but some dont.
Some get funny with anything eating the same food as them...

as for coms, they tend to kick off when they have just enough space, massive amounts and generally u have peaceful com and similarly with a tank that is well overstocked, you will rarely get fights. If the odd fight breaks out, koji's bubble screen idea works well, ie you place a constant stream of air bubbles across the tank to break it up so they dont all see each other at once....
