I was going to set up a SA cichlid tank, stocklist:

1 male jag
1 male green terror
1 male convict
4 red hook silver dollars
3 or more clown loaches

i was wanting to add some ancient fish in there, and the first thing that poped into my mind was a silver aro. I no how big these guys get, but i love there color and everything. what i was wondering was, could i house one of these guys in the 180g tank for life? And if i could what is their diet, preferred water conditions, etc.

You could house a silver aro in a 180g for a few years but not for life. Silver aros will get to be well over 30" and should have a tank that has a length that is 3x that of the aro and the width/depth should be at least equal to the length of the aro.

:iagree: youll get a few years out of a 180g but youll eventually need to upgrade..

ya thats what i was worried about, are silvers and jars the only two legal aros in the US. If there is anything else, is it from SA cause i want to keep it at least a regional tank if you get what im saying

Black Arowanas are legal but they are just almost impossible to get in the United States and once you find one you are gfoing to pay a arm and a leg. Baby blacks are about 100 and adults go from 250- 300.

Silvers could eat Red Hook silver dollars. Make sure they are near adult size and introduce a much smaller Silver.

ya i no its just i dont want to be one of those people that have a big silver aro that i bought and i now look like an idiot because i have to get rid of it you no, because i think its the biggest tank i could go with
