mkf pros, how many hours a day do you think your aro tank should be lit? what are the advantages/disadvantages? what happens if its lit 24hrs a day or never?

seems like a dumb question but i cant really find anything about it so i would like all of your opinions and advice with what works

thanks

Unless you have plants, tank lights are only for your veiwing pleasure. More light equals more algae and can be more stressfull for the fish.

On my tank I just turn on whenever I want to look at my fish, Then turn them off when I'm done.

I have mine on a timer for 8 hours. It’s a plant aquarium light. Its soft lighting and not that bright as I only keep one bulb in the fixture. The fish do not show any signs of stress from it. I tried two bulbs at first but quickly removed one bulb as I feel it made it too bight. I have some live plant as well and it seems to be doing ok.

i keep mines on 4 hours a day

My lights were typically on for 12 hours, but not at full intensity the entire time. I have just decreased the amount of time to 6 hours, and may even go to 4 hours. My Aro doesn't like any light!
