Hi, i have a 10-inch Red Tail Golden Aro and I'm wondering why he sometimes snaps on his own tail causing it to be damaged. Though he's eating a lot and i perform regular water changes (30%) weekly. His tail is slowly growing back but then once in a while i still catch him going crazy trying to bite his tail again. just like a dog. Any advice?

Very strange, I have never heard of this.

Do you have any tankmates with it?

Perhaps some dither fish could take his attention away from himself....

its called tail biting. it can somtimes be due to an infection of some kind. make sure he is not getting fin rot or somting that could be bothering him.

what tank mates are in the tank?
what size is the tank?

some people say tail biteing it to do also with boredom, if aro in a bare tank with no tank mates.

Maybe put a fire hydrant in there.
