I recently, ( past month) moved my Aro about 300 miles, from sea level to 1800 ft. The water is much harder here and the ph as well, have been using city water and reverse osmosis, with cycle, stresscoat, little bit if aquarium salt, per label for freshwater and melafix, He was used to a steady 7.0-7.2 ph, now 7.5 it has been higher. He stopped eating for 5 days (10 month 15" silver)after nosediving the bottom and trying to jump out. He injured his head until it bled a little, he finally is eating krill, now Hikari carnivore. He's pale and seems like he's sick, but I think he's pulling out of it slowly, and a good canister filter system should be here anyday. I see improvement but am worried about him still, I know him very well and my friend is sore, exhausted and been through a lot. I keep the tank lights mellow, the area mellow, he has a pleco and angelfish for tankmates. He elso went thru an algae bloom, but now the tank is clear, just a little amber hue due to the tanin.

hope he gets better...:)

How is your arowana doing?????? :D

sounds like it pulling through and i hope it is fine.
when i bought my RTG i picked it up a few hundred miles away and it too had different water params.
it tok a good month for it to really settle and colour up properly it was quite stressed for a while

Just keeping the water params stable should help in the long run, irregardless of whether its quite hard or soft.

he's starting to look like he's gonna live. Wow, he was really really bad, Thank you all for your advice, he's starting to eat and I perhaps detect a good change, the attitude is starting to come back.

that's really good to hear. it sounds like you did everything right to ease your aros transition. get something to really weigh down the tops of your aquarium. and make sure you share some snap shots of it when you can. :D

as a matter of fact, we're (Gu Kaan-chinese for "eliminates darkness) trying operation photoshoot #2 today, if Gu Kaan would cooperate it would be much easier! We'll get those pix going!! Thanks for all your support!!
