Our silver aro is still not eating. We had him in with an oscar, who we think was beating on him. We moved the oscar and he still isnt eating. What should I try? I have tried everything from cichlid sticks to krill to nightcrawlers. Any suggestions? Please help...that is the last fish i want to lose. Thanks.

Hmmmmmmm you could try freeze dried Krill or even frozen krill. The Silver Aro I recently got started eating pellets an fried dried Krill right off the bat :headbang2 , which amazed me since Ive never seen one take to non live food so quickly an easily :woot: . Especially since I got 24 small comets when I bought him, if I didnt buy the feeders hed prolly die of starvation.

Hey rally....How long has it been since he last ate? Mine (R.I.P) used to "fast". He would go about 5 days or so before he would eat...Have you tried frozen beefheart yet? I know they tend to get picky as they get older, mine did, and they will only eat certian things...
You should try using X-TREME GARLIC by KENT MARINE...It is an attractant, you can soak some of his food in it, or as you put the food into the tank, put a couple of drops in with it...I know that DeLaGado has talked about using this method in a previous thread...in fact, it may have been one for my Blk Aro...
Hope this helps!
Jen ;)

He probably hasnt ate in about 4 or 5 days, he ignores EVERYTHING. should i try to throw some minnows in? would that wake him up a little? I know they are bad but i get them at a nice bait shop and them put them in a seperate tank with salt for a few days before i feed them. I have actually never tried to feed him live....think its worth a shot?

I threw a few feeders in to see if my new Aro would pull a 180 an turn into Jaws but he Ignored them. Hopefully thatll get yours back in the fight.

I let a JD and a senegal bichir starve for a solid month before they started eating. I'd do the same treatment to your arow. *Chance* you might lose him, but frankly I haven't heard of any visibly-healthy fish allowing itself to starve to death.

And 4-5 days without food is nothing, anyway. Maybe after 2 weeks you would have better reason to be concerned. I guess I'm just a more ruthless keeper than you, but I've had countless feeding problems with the various fish I've kept, and simple starvation tactics always come through.

That is actually comforting...in a very odd way lol

I just saw my chineese algae eater sucking on the side of the aro. do you think this is stressing him to the point of not eating? His side looks funny, sort of like its been scratched with sandpaper. should i get that algae eater out of there? and if so...whats the best way to catch that quick little ****.

throw in some live crickets, there is no doubt in my mind he will eat them. I have used this food many times in breaking an arowanas self imposed fast. you might try gut loading crickets after you see that he is accepting them. good luck i think you will have no problem
