Before I go buying an aro, do they work well with poly's? I would assume that they do for the simple fact that poly's are bottom dwellers and Aro's are top dwellers. But my main question is this: do I have to worry about putting a 3 in aro in with a 9" weeksii? Is there a big chance or it getting eaten. I understand that that will change from fish to fish but speaking in generalities...

Right now it would be going into a 90g with plans for all the appropriate tank upgrades as it grows.

I also have the option to grow it out for a bit in either the 90 or the 55 I have established so that it is big enough to where the weeksii won't touch it.

Well mostly everyone on MFK thinks to not buy a fish unless you have the correct tank size already set up.
Maybe you should wait?

No offense but I'm not going to buy a 300g just to have it sit in my garage for a Year and a half till the aro is big enough.

I wouldn't put the aro in there till it's much larger than 3''. I'd say you want him at at least 5-6'' if you wanna put him with a 9'' poly, but some might say he should be the larger of the two just to be safe.

A small aro should be raised by itself til at least 9 inches. Also that weeksii would try to eat it. My advice is grow it out before putting them together.

+1

There's no reason why you couldn't put a 6" aro in a 300g tank IMO, in fact you'd get better growth and save the hassle of having to move the fish when its bigger...
