Aro with split Dorsal fin

My Aro had a split dorsal fin when I got him. (He's the one imported from Hong Kong,tank bred, tank raised) The other two with him had bodies that were deformed, mine was the only halfway decent one. He had a separation at one point in his dorsal fin.

It didn't regenerate or heal, but it seems to have just grown like it's supposed to be that way. It doesn't appear to affect him, so I am guessing it's OK and just the way he's going to be.

how long has it been like this? i would say it would mend...

His color looks great. I think it will mend if you see some growth at the base of this bare spot. I guess you could have a genetic anomaly and be missing 1 or more fin rays at this point without the possibility of joining. The fins anterior and posterior to this point look normal.

i doubt its gonna ever grow mei, looks great tho. adds good character after the first move of my big guy, i totally messed up by grabbing it with my bare hands and trying to squeeze him to make him stop skwirming but i totally messed up his top fin, it never grew back, now it has like 2 full inches from his head back of basically no fin or messed up fin, i hate it, but hes still cool.

he just tore that ray on the fin to the base. it may never heal though.

my severum has the same thing on its left fin

Mei, is a fish petter not a fish squeezer. I guess we all learned something here. Never squeeze the hell out of your fish.

try holding your arowana with 2 hands "gently". its gonna flop n skwirm right out of ur hand. u have to apply some kinda pressure to actually "hold" it. but now i juse use a bucket n sweep them into it.
