Any ideas why mine has started randomly shaking his head like a twitch then darting round the tank, then slowing down? He looks very healthy and has a great appetite!!

I'm afraid I can't provide an answer but you're not alone, mine recently started this head twitching business recently.

What are your water parameters? Perhaps we can compare notes

dragon dance normal terretorial behavior i guess... or maybe he's hungry

Hey man mine has started doing the same thing. Have you recently freaked him out real bad. Have you added anyhting to the water that might piss him off. I have been doing some reading and they say this is a sign that you Aro is scared of somethng. Does he act normal if he cant see you in the room.

sounds like it's scared, begging for food, or possibly the water.

fish tend to scratch themselves and dart around the tank when for example, you do a dangerously large water change. not sure about aros.

both my silver and jardini are scared of the colour yellow, and my silver is scared of any object hovering above him. either way when they're scared they exhibit similar behaviour that you described, plus some jumping. keep in mind that when arowanas sleep they still swim around with their eyes open (cant close their eyes obviously) and it appears that they're awake, so it may be that you're startling him.

I dont think its a scared thing I have to say, I'd sooner go with what Bandad said. This fish knows me and will come up to the glass and circle that area looking me in the eye while Im there. I sit in front of the tank on the computer and he's never had a problem, if indeed it is a problem. But, looking at him now, he's definitely twitching, darting and trying to scratch. Haven't done too larger water change, still eating fine. Where's Koji? He seems to know EVERYTHING!!!

sometimes aros just get a wild hair up their *** too...if you watch them long enough they do some funny things...

Sign of hunger in my case..

i think arowana's are like oscars, when they want to show territorial dominance
they begin to do that.
usually happens once they reach maturity and come to certain level of sexual maturity.
