alright new 155 gallon .. 60" x 26"W x 23"

anyone think a silver would be alright for a good while in it? he'd have half an inch more then a 180 wide but lose a foot in length.

a few people have said jardini would work but i plan for tankmates so nervous about trying a jardini.

any recomendations?

It will do for a while if your buying a young fish. The rule of thumb is 3 times the length of the fish and width the same as the fish so 90 x 30 would be the recommended. Length wise you can go shorter if you want but not by much 72 inch would be about the min for an adult silver IMO.
If you go for it make sure you got the money to upgrade in the future or go with the jar.

yah the tank would be a 72x25 (180) if i could find one used but no luck. :(. how long would the tank last him before something bigger?

thats the response i was expecting. it seems verryyy borderline in alot of peoples opinion. like it will do butttt haha.

how long does everyone think he would last in the tank. i mean until he gets 24 inchs hell be fine in there in my opinion. maybe even 25 .. but when he hits 30 it will be too small. so how long does it generally take from 4"-24"?

it all depends on multiple factors: care, diet, water quality, etc . . . be aware that a silver will grow from 7 to 11 inches in 4 months and along with length, comes much width. their mouths are very big and they consume at a high rate. mine is the greediest fish in my tank. he even out eats my oscars, because he can fit more food in his mouth and swallow bigger pieces whole. my oscars can not swallow pieces of food as big as my arowana can.

ty.

anyone know the overall rate from about 4"-24" .. until hed deffinatly need an upgraded tank. and if i was to get a silver my stock list would so far be:

silver aro
florida or spotted gar
2x or 3x bichirs (senegal/delhezi)

anyone see a problem between fish in that list so far? might add something into the middle of the tank too or active (black ghost knife or something)

anyone see problems?

just watch the sizes. you have to consider rate of growth and aggression. then you have to buy fish at sizes that you know will allow for accomdation of all the fish in the tank. if you buy a senegal at a certain size but he's gets outgrown by another fish that is has a faster growth rate, the senegal will become a snack. floridas are slower growers, etc . . .

Watch that combo. My arowana basically killed my gar. Not out of aggression, but they went for the same food, the aro striking as aros do, spooked gar, broken back.

If I had to guess I'd say 2 years in that tank for an aro, then look for something in the 8'x3' range.

Or if you're rolling in $$$ you could get yourself an Asian...
