Hi all, I've got a HBRTG and have big problems putting new fishes inside. Everytime i try to put new fish to comm with my aro it'll just go to those new guys and attack them badly. any advice on how ways to put new tankmates into the tank with the aro getting aggressive towards the new mates? Help please!

Thanks for the info! I heard from one of the lfs i have here telling me to actually pick the aro up into another tank or pail from the main tank first, put the new mates into the main tank for 10mins den put the aro back in. does it work?

The effective way to minimize aggression of Aro comm with other tankmates is to add wavemaker. From your current situation, you can remove the Aro from the main tank first, add in all the tankmates then release the Aro into the tank.

Not 100% guarantee to ease aggression but it will help to minimize.

What kind of tankmates have you tried? Some aros will not tolerate something in it's swimming path. IME bottom dwellers do well with aros. As for removing your aro, adding tankmates, and putting your aro back in the tank---I've had mixed results. Sometimes this does the trick. Other times it makes it worse as the aro will try to establish his rank as tank boss... It's worth a shot--all you can do is trial and error..

Good luck,
Chris

I'm trying it the other way round ad the aro, hopefully won't feel like it's space is getting invaded. Could house the aro in a different tank for a bit whilst you set up your community?

If your aro has the tank all to itself for too long, it will not tolerate new tank mates, especially upper and mid-level swimmers. Maybe you can try bottom dwellers e.g. bichirs, plecos, puffers, etc.
