I went to my LFS today and saw some really nice Flowerhorns for $100 that I would love to buy. I was wondering has anybody been successful mixing flowerhorn with an arowana? I have a 125 gallon tank do you guys think they have enough space to avoid each other?

i dont know about others but i failed mixing it with silver aro, the flowerhorn has just too much of bad attitude in the end got beaten up pretty bad by my aro, finally craiglists rescued my flowerhorn.

i put my 6" female zz (red) flowerhorn in my roommate's 240 gallon with his 3 20" silver aros and the aros went crazy! the flowerhorn would swim next to them, then they would dash across the tank and hit the lid etc.

so yea, flowerhorns and aros DO NOT mix well.

on the other hand, aros and peacock bass mix very well :)

Many have successfully done it. A few guidelines need be followed. First the arowana needs to have grown to at least 11-12". The arowana will need to be twice the length of the FH. You will also need to provide a proper sized tank for the fish, a 125g is not.

I have a flowerhorn with my arowana. The arowana is 15" and the flowerhorn introduced in the tank was 3". They just leave each other alone!

i say this is luck.

Awesome thanks. I think ill pick up a smaller tank if I pick up a Flowerhorn. I dont want to wake up finding my $100 investment dead. How about introducing a Datnoid? Dragon and Tiger? Yin/Yang?

Possibly. In my experience though, arowana are not the fish eating machines most people believe them to be.

Seems like a dumb idea to be buying a FH if you are selling your tank and moving out of the country:screwy:
