Hi guys,

I have a 4x2x2 tank with a 12' Jardini in it now. Was thinking if I can add another 7' RTG or a similar size gar? Wanted to add both a gar and rtg but i dont think that would be good due to the space constraints of the tank.

I kept a spotted gar and a jar together without problems for about a year, I got them both very small tho and they was both only around 7-9 inch when I sold the gar and I know jars get more aggressive when they get bigger so I'm not sure but I think the jar would kill it because the tank is already his territory...

Gars are not compatible with arowanas, and a jardini is probably the worst arowana that you could try with a gar.

I hate when people sat things like that... Try it yourself before you jump to conclusions. Sorry I'm not directing this rant toward you specifically. But in all honesty, the last time I looked into my tank I had stingrays, arowanas, and gars all in the same aquarium. It's all about how they are introduced to each other.

I have tried it, done it many times. Is Ryan right...yes. I believe he has done it also. Most times the silver instinct of gars take over, and most aros are mean to gars. My gars that I had with my aros often had torn fins. I have even found gars on the floor while mixing. My gars are all calmer since my gars are with other gars. Aros general claim the top section and most fish that wonder up there will get messed with by the aro. Gars need to come up to breath.

Rays IMO are not worth the risk. Many times the ray loses a tail to a gar and dies. I like my fish and I don't want to come home to w dead fish. You can do what you want with yours though. I used to be a supporter of aro and gar mixes. Over time I have faded with my exp to the seperation of them unless you have a massive tank.

i've seen tanks where it's possible. I would try a gar with a more laid back specie of aro such as a Silver or a black. Asain aros-minus the green might also work.

The jardini will not work though....especially with the small tank. You planning to upgrade in the future?
