I mean what is the purpose of it? I know catfish one are diffent but they use that to scan food or dangous. How about the arowana? And it is turth if it got damage it will never grow back?

i am only guessing here cuz i like guessing so don't take this as fact..... but since they are a predatory fish, i am guessing that the barbs act as a way for them to sense movement for prey and possibly even detect size and speed of prey judging by the ripples felt by these barbs, kinda like cat whiskers. i may be way off though

i think it is for scanning the surface (mainly) when young to feel insects and food...mine when it was yound scanned the surface then when the barbels touched something it tryed to eat it...they can grow back...and what swede said

whats up with the bad spelling and such

Funny how on all forums...there are always a few that have a real problem with how people spell!!! If I can read it and make sense of it....it's all good!!:)

Sorry to de-rail.

I was always of the understanding that the barbles don't grow back...hopefully I will never have to worry about, but nice to hear that they re grow

Tim checks for spelling mistakes before hitting submit to keep the spelling police at bay!!

This is just the type post you get from someone who really has nothing to offer.

Not sure as to the exact reason for the barbels, I'm sure it;s to detect movement on the surface. Barbels usually will grow back often times they will be deformed though.
