one of my LFS owners is an arowana expert. he orders special foods for arowanas that come from taiwan. he's asian, himself. when selling me my arowana, he told me that arowanas with bent or curled barbels are not considered to be as valuable as those with straight barbels. he said that a trophy arowana with bent or curled barbels loses monitary value and sells for less. i don't know what technically or physiologically happens to allow for an arowana's barbels to bend or curl up, but i thought i'd give you the breeder's point of view on arowanas with damaged barbels.
