Arowana Breeding?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You actually do not need a tank as big as everyone says. the most important thing is time. it may take a 9 year old aro to begin breeding. once you sex them yiu can breed them. your ph will need to be very low, between 5.2-6.7 and water temps around 84 degrees. you need to vary the food between love and pellets and increasing the amount of food will help. any tank 5' long x at least 2' wide will work. wider and longer is ideal but it's possible in a 140 ish gallon tank. once the fish begin increasing the amount of food they eat they will begin courtship behavior. this may last for months of them just chasing each other in circles. eventually it will end amd they will release eggs. temps and conditions stay mostly the same as before, maybe bump up ph and temp. it may take a few attempts for success but don't get discouraged. best of luck and don't listen to the whole you need a massive pond thing

How much of a factor is ph? My water is very hard and I can't imagine what it would take to get it acidic in a tank my size

ph is highly important. probably the biggest factor other then time

One of my LFS had them breed. At a guess, the tank is 7-8ft long x ~5ft wide x 2.5-3ft tall.

They have around around 4 of them in the tank, as well as some other inhabitants.
