Hey JardiniBoy, could you repost that picture of your jar here and tell us what you feed him and how you care for it. I was just wondering if anyone else has a jar with these markings and colors and if they use any of the same techniques that he uses??
Thanks.

Background and base colouration of the tank will affect the colouration look of the jar.

Haven't seen the pics but try stuffing Azoo sticks inside cocktail shrimp. It gave my Jar red/pink streaks along the head and brought out the speckles on the tail

Hey bro ... here you go.

The pink markings on the head, scales and fins develop with age. I think it's mostly to do with genes, but water quality and diet also play a role.

My jar eats anything that hits the water. The food for the tank includes live shrimp, frogs, superworms, crickets, fish fillets, prawn meat and pellets.

I also add blackwater to the tank and fresh aloe and garlic extract, but not sure if they help.

that stuff helps sooth the fish and creates a better environment for him.. so heck yeah it does have an affect :headbang2

I know that part, that's why I add it. What I meant was I don't know what effect the blackwater has on the coloration.

BTW what kind of frogs do you feed him and where do you get it?

In Taiwan you can buy feeder frogs at around 3 bucks for 12 from the LFSs. Feeder soft shelled turtles at the same price. I'm not sure what species the frogs are..

Awesome fish. I never heard of feeder turtles. :WHOA:

I did 2 threads about them a little while back. Just do a search on "feeder turtles" if you're interested..

We can get feeder bullfrogs here in singapore too for feeding. But not softshell turtle. Too ex to be feeder here.
