Hi I've tried searching but can't really find an answer.
I want to buy two or three asian arowana's as babies and raise them together. Will this work in the long run or do I need a lot more to make a community work?
Any information on asian aro communities and how they behave in groups or problems I might encounter would be greatly appreciated.

Also how fast do asian arowana grow?

first of all, most asian arowans are vary agressive and require alote of space, in other words a very large tank around 400+,and second asian arowans eat like pigs, i had a green arowana and he ate every thing that i threw in the tank, he even ate a little puppy that i threw in their for fun. so good luck with your three arows

First of all, you didnt even answer any of his questions. Second of all, tank has nothing to do with volume, but footprint. Third of all, an arowana would not be able to eat a PUPPY, fourth of all, if you like feeding puppy's for fun, you're pretty twisted :screwy:...

Id suggest getting 4-5 to spread out the agression. With more aros, the dominant one has less chance of picking on the others. Even with 4-5 you will probably still get some fin nipping and maybe some fighting, but i doubt anything serious would happen. Asians grow at about 1-1.5" a month up until around 16", then they slow down.

PS: just saw your post, hes probably BSing, hes in the middle of salinas, doubt he would have had a green.

yeah 4-5 aros, and they grow around 1"-1.5" a month maybe little faster if you feed em well and do alot of water changes, and yeah you may still get nipping even tho i dont have asians but i have an aro comm they sumtimes nip each other

Has anyone successfully raised two asian arowana together? The reason I ask is becuase I would have to sell up my peacock bass to keep four.

Yes, it is possible for 2 to be kept together, but really its all up to chance, you cant really say if it will work or not, it's trial and error. Just recently, someone from toronto was selling a pair of greens at 24" on MFK. I've asked about them and even thought they have been kept in the same tank, there is still the occaisional fin nipping.

with small Asian aros you need to start with 5 or more then reduce the numbers as they grow hoping you have a pair

a small tank is not a bad thing with 5 small aros as its best to pack them in to stop aggression if they have to much space they will form Territory's

i started with 9 aros then cut it down to 6 then 4 then a pair formed now i have just 2 which have been living together now for 4 months they still fight but not as bad as 2 small aros will my aros are now 24 inch and 30 inch

I have done two juvie aros, green and jardini and are together for 3 years started from 6" and now they are both at 21 a 23 inches. They have fought many times and did some nipping but it wasn't fatal. Fighting and nipping is unavoidable when you're keeping more than a single aro.

I've also done 2 Asian aro RTG and SR and both are just showing flares at each other and never did fight. They been together now for 14 months.

It's best if you can get 3 or more. But always have an extra tank just in case something might happen. Every individual arowana have it's own aggression level.

I bought those two...and yep, the big one (22") picks on the smaller one (18"). The smaller one doesn't even attempt to flee though, like it's just the norm...
