I currently have 5 silver arowana's 4-6inches in a 265 gallon tank. I started with 3 and added 2 more when the largest started harassing the others. I have added lots of floating plants throughout the tank. I have some zebra danios and guppies to distract him. But he continues to attack the others. Any other thoughts? I have temporarily quarantined him within the tank to allow the others a chance to recover. Do they have individual personalites making some more aggressive than others? If I get rid of him will another one become the agressor? Thanks.

it is inevitable to have conflicts in the first few days/weeks of aro comm.. but since they are juvies, they will actually adapt better to each other and if they have nipped fins or lost some scales, their recovery rate is a lot faster compared to adults..

So , I should just ride it out. Update I seperated the most aggressive one and now a new aggressor has emerged. How many should I put in the tank to diffuse this aggression?

there would always be an aggressor.. just like humans.. kill the dictator and more dictators would sprout.. lol you have 5 all in all right? maybe add 1 more or maybe a couple.. that way, the aggression level would decline.. though nipping and spanking and biting and crying will still arise but in a couple of days to maybe 2 weeks at most, they will all be bestbuds.. dont worry about their beauty, they are still juvies and their recovery rate is fast.. if you want, add commercial products to hasten the healing.. lol

Thanks for the advice. I was considering adding a couple more to try and diffuse things Vs giving up on the community idea. Much appreciated.

that's the spirit.. now you've got the blood of a MFK running through your blood.. always keeping the optimism up and finding solutions along the way.. if you ever have anymore questions, just post it and many more will answer..

Pics of the community?

keep it up and add a couple more in there. Also, some big driftwood pieces to provide barriers.

Check nd see if they're more calm with lights on or off...As said, ride it out. It will work in the end.

And do not stress the big one, leave it be and ride it out.

The Aro like to be in packs. My LFS owner said he had 4 of them he had 2 of them and then add more, which his big one started to mess with the smaller aro so he took it out and he said the other ones are good now.
