I remember seeing an arowana or two(Asian) with ripped tails and if I'm not mistaken, broken barbels having those parts trimmed or cut so that they can grow back into a better shape.

Question is... how do they do it? I know they knock the fish out, but what next?

Trimming and cutting, right?

Not that I've ever done anything like that before, but I would like to add that I think something like that should only be attempted with the aid of someone that has had experience

"should be" is the key term.. i plan to try my hand at dropeye surgery sometime this winter..
