Hey what do you guys think about having a fluval 305 and a pump with all filter media inside and pumping the water into a sump then the water gets filtered thru the sump and gets pumped back up thru another fluval 306 with all filter media inside

Sounds more complicated then it's worth. If the sump is under the tank the 306 will not work as a return filter. Also going to be hard to match the flow of the 305 and 306 together.

BTW this really has nothing to do with arowana as it is just a general filter question. This site is broken up into many sub forums, better replies come from posting in the proper sections.

fill tration can be simple.
you are over complicting it, just use the canister filters as they are, they are brillant.
if you gonna use a sump, focus on the sump.

or if you want over filtration - whcih i highly encourage cos over filtration is frigging awesome! then use both.
but dont bother to hook them up like a laboratory

Check valves cut down on flow rate. You don't want to use them if you can get away with it. I agree that you are over complicating your filtration.
