Ok, a LOT of people here like arowanas. I have never had one, and I think you guys have convinced me now to try one. So, no tank ready yet, but I want info before I invest in a new setup.

Say I get a silver aro, juvenile. What else would be fun in a 300-ish gallon tank? Aros are always on top, so I was thinking maybe a red tail catfish...would it outgrow the tank?

What else for middle-tank? Maybe a few oscars? Any other suggestions? I like fish that are large, impressive, voracious feeders but not overly agressive with tankmates...(I have had a lot of agressivity in the past with african cichlids, did not like that).

Thanks for your suggestions!

Mmmm...yeah I always wanted pacus...but won't they outgrow the 300g tank tho?

A RTC would grow to fast an prolly try an make lunch outve the Aro. Plus Aros dont always stay at the top of the water, Ive seen mine swimming from the top to 3/4 of the way down to the bottom.

As for tank mates, Id suggest Tinfoil barbs, Bala sharks, some cats that dont get Ginormous.

check my gallery, i have some fun friends with my aro:D (jag oscar clown knife albino channel cat, flowerhorn.)

Yes.....Gars and stingrays, that sounds good. But I read stingrays are harder to keep, and I have never had any experience with those. Not sure if I will like it? Oh, and what is the growth rate of the Aro?

Look at my signature, under 130g. Could I put those fishes with the Aro in the 300g tank? I could use the 130g for my snakeheads when they get bigger...this way my wife will not try to hit me with a stick again :)

My aro occasionally hugs the bottom when he is scared. He is currently about 11" and is housed with an RTC that is a very solid and heavy 7". I am not sure how much longer I will be able to keep them together as the RTC has grown 4" in less than 3 months and I don't expect that rate to slow down any time soon.

I have mine with a clown knife and a venezuelan pike

Dat(Siamese Tiger).....wonderful creature....
should get at least the same size as your aro from the beginning,....
