hey i just got my new silver aro, because my old one just passed away, i had it sense it was a baby like 3in and grow it to 28in:cry:okay so the new one is about 6 inch long and will not eat anything that i put into the tank, ive tried pellets, brine shrip, gold fish (live) crickets, flies, and another type of pellet that the ppl at the pet store recomened to me. does anyone have any tips or suggestions on how to get him to start eating... under his own power...???? also do any of u guys know how long they can go with out eating?
thanks
Rj

i mean when i first got my arow at that size he didnt eat for about 3 days and after he ate dry shrimp and few weeks later pellets. Few months later he then died after a blackout because the water was to cold and not enough filteration

hey rj.. hi.. some basic questions.. how long since you got this aro.. how long has the aro not been feeding.. are there any tankmates with the aro.. what size is the tank.. lighting, temperature, water parameters... what pellets are you trying to feed? what did the lfs say the aro was on? aros of any size will usually take sometime to get used to a new environment.. larger aros can go for extensive periods.. some other mfkers have had their aros fast for more than 4 weeks.. one of my aros did 2 weeks about 6 months back and now she is doing it again.. almost a week.. while the other aros are feasting like crazy.. i would suggest you give it some time and stick to one food for now till the aro starts eating.. give the aro the space and feed twice a day.. if the aro doesnt accept the food remove it.. gradually the aro will become fine.. all the best with your new aro.. and sorry about your old aro mate..

thanks
i have a couple takemates.. 2 chinese algae eaters and a pleco.. along with 2 gold fish that i put in there to see if he would eat them but subcequently they living fine in the tank and seem to be growing. i got him on 9/4/11 so almost 2 weeks.. he hasnt eaten sense i got him. the tank his is in right now is 5 by 2 by 2 but i have a larger tank for when it gets bigger (8 by 3 by 2(the tank i had my old one in)) the water temp in 84F and for lighting i have 2 t8 shop lights about 1ft above the tank..
thanks again Rj

Is your fish active? Did you ask what he was eating from the store you got him from? I would also advocate that you check your water conditions and tank temp compared to where you bought him from.

I have never kept the silvers but have kept many Jardinis over the years.

Did you buy him from a big als.
