Hi monsterfishkeepers!

I want to build a plywood tank, but a small one to house an arowana. Obviously because of my location (NC, US)I will go with a silver, don't really like the black.

I will buy a fry, 2-5". Fow how long will I able to house it in a 4x1.5x2, or 5x2x2?

Also what would be a good tankmate? Don't want another monster fish. I would like to have either small sting ray, or some other fish.

Thanks,

Hi guerrero

When you're building plywood tanks the bigger, the cheaper. Also if you don't have a tank to move the aro after it outgrow the tank you're planning (both are too small to house it for long enough to build another tank). It's better to build a bigger tank or avoid the Arowana. Also that tank is to small for a Stingray.

So what would be a good size for a year, 6x2x2 ?

If you're planning to upgrade in a year 6x2x2 is okay for a Silver but it will outgrow it soon. For life I'm building an 8x3x2. Keep in mind that Silvers can reach 4 foot in the wild (normally 3 in captivity) so a wide tank is very important for the aro, they need space to turn.

if u get a jardini u might be about to house it in there for a little longer maybe because jardini doesnt get as big as silver

My bottom panel is going to be plywood. Kldfish is right, if you get a black or a jardini you can keep it longer in a smaller tank, in 7x3 I'd keep both of them for life.

I'm here in DR. Is nice to talk with someone here from my country!!!

Also, there are some tankmates that are completely ok with the aro without having to make the tank bigger. Bichirs, cichlids, datnoid, etc. Those measures are for the aro, they need large and wide tanks to swim correctly.

You can send me a PM if you want to talk more
