Hi guys

I brought a Asian arowana nearly four weeks ago but he has not eaten. I have tried pellet, mussels and prawns but to no avail. He shows he is going to eat but at the last minute retreats. Apart from not eating he is very active and aggresive. Had him first in a large comunity tank but removed him after a week because he beat every thing up, therefore he is on his own now. I have heard newly aquired arowanas don't eat for a while, when should I start to worry?

I would prefere not to go the live feed way even if its worms and insects.

Thanks guys

try freeze dried shrimp, if that doesn't work I would really recomend trying at least live crickets. they are good for arowanas and ussualy break hunger strikes well. My silver loves them.

Hey, did you check with the previous owner/seller about his eating habit?

The ones with the feeder fish habit take time to adjust to dry food.

Whoaaa, four weeks is a long time imo. If the fish is large then could still be OK, but if it is juvi, then you should really get some food into him. Crickets are usually accepted quite readily (mine accepts even frozen ones). My larger newly acquired asians do not eat so well either, but they do take an occasional piece of shrimp (it has been only a week since their arrival) - the rest of the new arrivals are already on Hikari

Whats the size of the aro?

As said, try crickets, for starters, and ask the prev owner what it ate.

i find that they cant refuse mealworms.

My aro also eats super worms but they are kind of addictive to the aro as that's about all he will eat now. He will sometimes eat a piece of shrimp but generally prefers super worms. I think that asian aro's may be picky eaters.

My aro sometimes goes on hunger strikes as well. He hasn't eaten in the past 3 days but he usually comes around. 1 month is little long but I don't think that any fish would starve itself to death. He will give in eventually. Try super worms or crickets or even centipedes (if you can find them).
