Hey guys, Im starting a 150 gallon 5x2x2 and im almost certain i want an arowana in it. I know that silvers are too big so maybe an asian or a black, i don't really like jars as i want to keep tankmates in with it. Any suggestions on some nice active fish that will not shred plants and will live well with the aro? Thanks a lot

Well you can keep bottom dwellers with jars. People have reported Asians to be just as bad. I don't feel the tank is long enough for a black. And it isn't long or wide enough for a lei, since they can't bend as much as a black.

Idk much anything about rays, so I can't help there. I think you'd have to grow balas out before getting an aro unless you can find large ones. And some Asian aros get up to 3' so unless you know you'll be able to upgrade. I'd skip an aro. You can do a jar, and keep hardy bottom dwellers. That's the smallest species you'll come across and even they sometimes get over 2'. I wouldn't keep an aro in anything smaller than a 180. And that'd be a jar or black. And I'd be skeptical about it.

Responsible decision, I've been avoiding them cause my tank isn't big enough, but I'd love a jar. What kind of fishes are you into? You can start a thread in the general aquaria area, you'll get lots of fishes that you can keep mentioned there cause more people will see it.

A channa won't work with anything. ;)
If the balas are too small, he'll kill them. If the balas are too big, it'll let itself die in a corner.

Wow, thought the aggresion was overhyped. But I have no idea what fish i want maybe i will wait and see. Probably a ghost knife fish with a gar. Just no alligator gars
