i have two silver aro's, on is 21" and the other about 15". at what size and age will or would a typical silver aro drop eggs?? i have read many threads and googled all types of info on trying to tell the sex of an aro. all of it seems to be here say, from what i can tell. i have been inspecting my aros closely all while doing the research, the bigger of the two sports a petruding lower jaw. all i want to know is when will one of them drop eggs if one of them is indeed a female??? i just want to know what they are already!!! also, what are the chances, if i do have a male and female, of them ever breeding in a 9'x3'x3' tank?? is it possible?? thanks very much

ive never heard of anyone successfully breeding arowanas in aquariums. Im pretty sure you need a pond and even then you gotta know what you are doing.

its happened with very well established pairs settled for many years. mainly documented accounts are with Asain Aros but has also been acheived with SA;s certainly silvers ive never read an account of it happening with blacks but possible.

Back on track with the OP's questions:

Sexing: NO 100% way. jaw structure is a theory u can explore if you really want to.

Eggs: even for a female to go gravid and produce eggs in a tank you are talking 4-5yrs+ they need to be very mature and well established in a comfortable environment before it happens and tanks do but aros under extra stress so it does play a key factor in slowing down the process it would appear. You can Speak Red Devil her female gave her eggs so she can help you more with this question.

Tank size: LESS IS BEST WITH ARO COMS. the smaller space the less violence weather a pair or group. certainly this appears true. For an established pair of silvers 9x3x3 could work once the break the 24"+ mark.

you will be the first that would able to breed aro in aquarium to me, lets hope its true and keep us updated!!
in otherhand, the pair is too young(not matured enough yet) to breed tho right now
