How big will a Silver Arowana get in a 55 gallon tank? Will they stop growing because the tank is to small? How much can I sell him for when he gets to big for my tank?

A silver arowana will not reach its full potential in a 55 gallon tank. I feel they won't stop growing, but they will get deformities. Probably less then another that has lived in a larger tank as they will look better. But this is all imo. Save for a larger tank!

I thought I could keep a baby in a 40gal long. But it did not last long at all. 1"-2" is a normal growth rate for a healthy silver

Water quality would have alot to do with it, but really the largest silver aro that should be in a 55g is about 11-12" long. Most silvers will reach that size within the first 8 months of their lives.

Have a look ,this is a recent thread with a silver aro that's been kept in a 55g for 6 years:( Arowana tank size, guess I am wrong

I think it's not too late to learn that a silver arowana, being the BIGGEST in the family of Osteoglossidae or Bone-tongued species, has the potential to grow up to 36" & more given the right condition & space..
Deformity will certainly occur if a silver arowana is placed in spaces such as a 55 gallon tank..
if I'm not mistaken, the amount of $$ most people trade or sell their silvers couldn't even match up with the amount of food used to feed them.. just my 2¢..

Thank you for the advice. He’s in a 12 gallon now and he is about 2 inches. How much would a 11 to 12 inch one sell for? I want to sell him for as much as I can so I can help pay for a bigger tank. How big of a tank would I need to keep a big Aro. in.

You may be able to get 40 bucks for an aro that size. To keep a full grown silver aro you gonna need at least a 300g with proper dimensions.

The place were I bought mine he was a inch and a half and he was 20 bucks, and a 4 to 6 inch one was 50.

That is retail. Your not going to get near retail for common fish like an arowana, especially for as quick as they grow. Anybody who actually did any type research before buying would just spend 20 bucks and grow out their own. Instead of paying lots more for a fish that may not have been properly raised.
