My crib
So I'm noticing horizontal scratches throughout the inside of tank lately. The only culprit I would think by watching the fish would be the Silver Arowana as I see him many times rubbing his head side to side against the tank. Could this really be from him?

I thought it could be the rays considering the sand and all, but then the scratches would be vertical as they go up and down the tank.

Has anyone else had issues with Arowanas in an acrylic tank?

Tankmates include:
5, 6-9" rays
12" Lima shovelnose
3, 7" Payara
2, 6" Barracudas
5, Geos various sizes
20" fire eel
10" Synspilum
2, 5" Mono Sebaes

Rays will scratch acrylic. Happens allot but as you said most of the time its vertical. But still can be. Glass tanks sound nice till you have to move them. I mean its the fire eel send him to me please. I need one that size.

This is true but why are the scratches horizontal and all over the tank, top and bottom? Rays tend to bite at the acrylic at the bottom of the tank. They also go up and down the tank but there are no vertical marks.

So I take it they are everywhere not just at the top and bottom. What about you cleaning the tank??

Correct, mostly everywhere with a concentration throughout the center of all the panels. The top and bottom 8" of all sides seem free from scratches.
Can't be me cleaning it as I go up and down with using Kent's Aqua Mop and all of these scratches are horizontal.
Aro is 20" so somewhat large but could he really scratch it with his mouth this much?

This sucks, just had the tank built 8 mths ago :(

I do not believe that an aro scratches acrylic.

It could very likely be the 'cudas. They're some toothy little cusses. My tigers scratch glass with their teeth begging for food, I wouldn't be surprised if a 'cuda could make scratches, either. My scratches also sound exactly like what you're describing.
