i have a silver aro hes about 2 feet. hes been doing the mating dance lately. i've been wanting to get another aro or two, but i want to know the sex or how to tell a female from a male or a male from a female. Thanks

2' ? how old is he ? sexing Aro is hard to do. Even experts that been breeding them for years still not sure how to do that unless they already chose their mate!

hes about a year and a half. when i change the water weekly he goes to the corner and starts wiggling his tail on the ground like hes trying to fight his shadow.

my tank is a 265 7x30x24 with black back black sides and clear front.

i have had my Arow 9 years in the fall..since a baby.... she gave me eggs 6 months ago.. so i know it is maybelline now... thats the only way to tell for sure..lol

Thats not a mating dance lol. That seems more like your aro is scared crapless in a corner. As for the sexing, I don't think we can ever be completely sure until it either starts dropping eggs or releasing sperm unless you cut em open.

hes not scared crapless. hes been in that tank with the tankmates since he was a baby 5 inch silver. hes been doing that lately when i do water changes.

Whether it is or not, I can't tell with just a description. One thing's for sure though, it's not a mating dance. This whole mating thing involves two aros swimming side by side, not one aro hiding in a corner rubbing its tail.
